Pear and Belgian endive salad with almonds and chives yoghurt dressing

Those who have been following the news lately, surely read something about a crisis in the fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, milk and dairy industry as Russia has decided to boycott the import of a lot of food. Among products most affected are the Belgian pears, of which Russians normally buy about €100 million’s worth annually, making up half of the pear growers’ total exports. Our Belgian fruit growers our now left with a glut of pears and have asked people to buy more Belgian products that have been banned, to help out all those affected. Since the announcement, I’ve been eating a lot of pears and other affected products and it gave me some inspiration for an easy pear salad that will not only taste good, but will also help out Belgian pear growers. You can do good & feel good at the same time!

So if you live in Belgium or if your country is not affected by a fruit ban and sells Belgian pears, please support our Belgian fruit growers and eat some more delicious pears! Pear and Belgian endive salad with almonds and chives yoghurt dressing

Lunch Belgian
Serves: 2 people
Total Time: Quick


  • 2 ripe pears
  • 150ml yoghurt
  • 5 tablespoons of chopped chives
  • 2 pieces of Belgian endive
  • handful of almonds
  • pepper
  • different kinds of lettuce, for instance: green curly lettuce, red oak leaf lettuce and field salad



Chop the pears up into slices and tear the lettuce apart. 


Strip off and discard any outer tired leaves and the hard root end from the endives.


All that's left to do now is strip off all the remaining leaves (remove anything else that's left, like the hard core) and serve them along with the lettuce/salad, pears and almonds.


Spoon in the chives with the yoghurt and add a couple of grinds of pepper and serve it along with your salad.


It's a very basic and easy dressing but sometimes you simply don't need a lot of ingredients to have a nice dressing.


Tip: If you like blue cheese, add about 25g to the dressing, it goes really well with pears and endive!
